The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli,(abbreviated NITT or NIT Trichy) is a publicengineering institution near the city of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India. Founded in 1964, it is one of the oldest institutions of the National Institutes of Technology system. The institute is located in a campus of 800 acres (3.24 km²).

The National Institute of Technology previously known as Regional Engineering College is situated in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu and it is also known as NIT Trcihy. The institution was started in the year 1984 as a joint venture of Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu. NIT Trichy
 was given the status of Deemed University and it is UGC/AICTE approved. The institute offers UndergraduatePostgraduate courses and also conducts Research programs. The NIT Trichy Admission is based on various national entrance examinations
